Welcome to 2012!! It is a new year and we are already thinking how in the world are we going to keep up on those New Year's resolutions. Is your New Year's resolution a true obtainable goal or is it a high level grasp at the clouds? Last night I was talking to my husband about how we needed to eat healthier. Ya, ya, we all say we want to eat healthier, but what does that really mean? How can you really tell if you succeeded or failed at "eating healthier"? This, my friends, is an example of a unmeasurable goal. It's a great thought and the truth is, when I say I think our family could eat healthier, I AM NOT KIDDING. But there just isn't any substance behind that goal. How can I change "I want to eat healthier" into a measurable, obtainable goal? What do you think? Feeling success is an important part of life. So, having obtainable goals that help you realize that success is extremely important. So, let's take the goal of "I want to eat healthier" and break that down a little more. What is it that I could commit to that would make me eat healthier? What if I said I was going to eat 2 servings of fruits or vegetables every day? THAT is something that I can measure success on. But, is it obtainable? Let's be real, with kids activities and running to this and that, it probably isn't. What if I said I would eat 2 servings of fruits or vegetables 5 days a week? Yes! I can do that. So for my 2012 New Year's resolution I am going to commit to eating 2 servings of fruits or vegetables 5 days a week. It may seem like a little thing to many of you, but it will be a big accomplishment to me. So, what are your true, obtainable goals for 2012? Add Comment A New Member 10/19/2011
I am excited and proud to inform you that I have officially become a member of the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce. Having the opportunity to learn more about my community and having my community learn more about me is really exciting. So, why is community important? It was interesting to realize some people feel community is a bad thing; that the term community forces the rejection of the idea of individualism. But, I disagree. I'm really hoping that the Chamber community will be a wonderful support mechanism for me and my new business. It's one of those great tools for learning about others' products and services, as well as learning how others succeed. Here's to my new community! The Launch 10/12/2011
The past two weeks have been busy ones. I officially launched my new business to my friends and family. I feel blessed to have so many people supporting me on my venture. Coaching has really been a life changer for me. In the big picture, it's an adventure in personal discovery and reaching outside your boundaries to understand who you are and who you want to be. But, sometimes coaching is just taking something that is bothering you and talking about it until you can find actions that help you get through the challenge. I hope everyone has a great day and please feel free to leave a comment by clicking on the comments link. Thanks Coach! 09/14/2011
Even though it is a rainy day outside, I have to tell you it is a great day inside! I had a great morning. This morning I was coached by a great expert in coaching and I can't thank her enough for her time. One of the things she asked me is "Why Coaching?" See, my background is in the IT world. In fact, I've done pretty well in the IT world. When she asked that I took a minute and thought about it. Truth is, I've done some soul searching in the last couple of years. I'm starting to realize my vision and my purpose. So, how did I answer? I'm sure you are on the edge of your seat waiting to find out. HA! I got to see an amazing speaker this year. Some of you may have heard of her. Her name is Maya Angelou. I knew you heard of her. Out of her entire speech, there was one quote that has stuck with me: “When you learn, teach, when you get, give. ― Maya Angelou This is such a simple concept, but sometimes we get hung up on feeling entitled to "it all", whatever "it all" means to you. What I realized was that I spent many years wanting more, more shoes, more clothes, more toys and so on. This year, I decided I didn't want more of that stuff, instead I wanted to do more teaching and more giving. I hope you spend a little time today thinking about how you can do more teaching and giving! First Post!!! 09/12/2011
